ON THE WIRE June  2007

Commodore’s Corner Ahoy,

Tucson Sailing Club put on yet another great picnic. They picked a really good windy day to challenge their Lasers.  It was fun.  Ned was the dedicated chef extraordinaire and no one left hungry.
Cinco went off without a hitch as well. Many thanks go to Roger and Ted for all their efforts. The Weather was exceptional with plenty of breeze that just built up all afternoon.   Condolences went out to Dean and Diane when they came in with the port bow structure details revealed for all to see. Some times reminders of old mistakes seem to never go away.  I was lucky enough to go out with Jim Stohlquist on his 18. It was a blast and really a great experience. I will like to take back almost every thing I have said about the infamous Hobie 18, but I still like my 16 shark.
The Fleet Adopt a Highway was successful again. We had lots of help and special thanks go to Ned and Deana Pos as well as Bill and Rosey Gleason.  It is good to see our fleet members, John E, Carol Ray, Mulays, Zimms, Stew, Perlmutters, Pete and Sandy, Lynn Edde sharing special items of interest picked up on the side of the road. I expect next year to have more even more help.
Sorry Lynn & I missed the TSC Memorial Day Race. Congrats to Jeff and Barb, they edged out Tony and Lani for the trophy. The trophy, a tall fully rigged sailing ship, is to die for. Sounds like Kevin.
This year we would like to focus on saving Playa Bonita. While there is nothing direct that we can do to prevent the closure, we can remind everyone at Playa Bonita that we would miss the venue if they were to sell out and close the park.  If it hits enough soft hearts there, maybe it will delay closure plans.  In the meantime, we should explore other venues that approach the amenities we enjoy at Playa Bonita. If we cannot find another site, we may have to consider San Filipe for Piñata and or Cinco.
We welcome the new fleet members, Hal & Carol Lowry. They are looking for an 18, hopefully we can sway them to a 16, we will see.
See ya next time and lets save Playa Bonita
Jack
