Rocky Point Challenge Spring 2007, Fleet 42 Overview, Scott Agen

Katy and I arrived Friday, mid afternoon, and looking out at the water, and trying to keep the sand out of our eyes, we thought we were in a heap of trouble. The wind was blowing, and the seas were white. Not good. We met up with the rest of the brave souls, and asked ourselves if this was going to last all weekend.  After a night of rocking in the R.V., we awoke with the sound of...nothing. The wind died down, and the water was flat. It was like someone flipped a switch, and calmed everything down. Looking at the beach, we had 9 boats sitting there. Katy and I brought two boats, the 16 and the newly acquired wave. Brad Smith, Matt Morris, Bill Gleeson, Terry Marshall, Christian and Julianne Berge, George Tomkins, Tony and Lani Krauss, Harry Zulch and Jason, Steve Rogoff and Diana Eberhart, and Scott Winkler and James all showed up to have some fun and do some racing. This was Jasons and James first time on boats, and was the weekend ever kind to them. Well, not too kind. Both had a bit of trouble getting used to, and bobbing on the water. But they were troopers non the less.
The long distance race on Saturday was interesting. Katy was on shore, and I was on the chase boat. The start and finish went off without a hitch. Except for Harry and Jason. They decided to flip the boat in front of Sandy Beach, and I, of course, didn't see them because I was at the other end of the race course. Steve and Diana passed close to me and let me know that the flip occurred. We went to see what was going on and make sure everything was fine. Hum, no mast to the side, it was pointing straight down. GREAT! My first time un-turtleing a boat. Harry, Jason and I were able to get the boat upright in less
than 15 minutes I thought that was pretty good. No one else flipped or had any other problems on the water the rest of the day. Sunday, triangle races happened. We were able to get three races in before the 2:00 deadline. This was the very first time that Katy and I
were able to get around the whole course and finish a race. We were able to finish all three races in fact! YIPPEE. After the races on Sunday, the awards were passed out. The awards were sponsored by Architectural Collaborative Team, and I think everyone enjoyed them. Purple ribbons with Gold and Silver medallions on the ends.

The long distance race finished like this:
Low Portsmouth with Spin - Brad Smith and Matt Morris 1st
Low Portsmouth without Spin - Bill Gleeson and Terry Marshall 1st .
High Portsmouth without Spin - Tony and Lani Krauss 1st
Triangle Races finished like this:
Low Portsmouth with Spin - Brad Smith and Matt Morris 1st
Low Portsmouth without Spin - Steven Rogoff 1st
Low Portsmouth without Spin - Scott Winkler and Jason 2nd
High Portsmouth without Spin - Scott and Katy 1st
High Portsmouth without Spin - Christian and Julianne 2nd

I want to give everyone who participated a very big THANK YOU. Also, another very big KUDOS goes out to Tony and Lani, George, and Diana for doing the Committee boat on Sunday.
